The main reason why people fail to reach their fitness goals is because they have their eye on the prize. The only reason they put their runners on and get out the door in the evenings is because they believe exercise will help them reach that goal (which in 9 out of 10 cases is weight loss – by far the worst reason for doing anything with a 97% failure rate!) When the results are slow to come, it’s hard to prioritise exercise because our brains are wired to always look for instant gratification.

Has this happened to you? You start exercising in order to lose weight/get fit/healthy, you’re fully committed to your goal and then… few weeks, maybe months, later, you just lose the motivation? You wait a few months and start again… and so the cycle repeats itself over and over…

It’s hard to see what’s going wrong because this is what everyone does and what we’re told all the time: keep your eye on the prize and if you fail, you’re just not focused or dedicated enough, maybe you don’t want it enough. But you do want it enough, you want it more than anything so if you’re like most women, advice like this makes you feel like there must be something wrong with you – maybe you just aren’t trying enough or are too lazy.

But if it’s not working for 9 out of 10 women, then it can’t be you, can it? Literally, everyone is caught in this failure cycle, so it’s not you, it’s the approach!

If you want to break free from this cycle and succeed, you need to do the opposite of what you’ve done before – you need to take your eye OFF the prize!
You need to realise that the reward is in the process, getting out that door, putting one foot in front of the other, breathing in the fresh air, feeling your body move, feeling your muscles getting stronger with every step, clearing your head, feeling good mentally and physically… this is the prize!!

In other words, the prize you’re looking for, the good feeling, is available to you every day, every step, right now. It’s really so super simple – all you have to do is take your eye off the prize and focus on what’s going on right here right now.

When you take your eye off the prize and focus on feeling good now instead, you will reach your end goal far more easily than before because you enjoy the process!
